Skate Shoes
In the world of skateboarding, there are multiple portions of gear and equipment that identify you as a skateboarding. Skate shoes play into the image of the skater. Indubitably, anyone with a skateboard would be quickly identified as a potential skateboarder, but if the rest of the image is not filled out, the image and movement of rebellion and tricks is embodied.
Skate shoes are typically broad with flat soles. The tread of the shoe maintains as much rubber on the bottom as possible making them wear quickly, because the whole sole is touching the ground continually. This means the rider will have more control of the board due to the increased surface area, but it also means the shoes wear out more quickly.
As far as style goes, there are several mainstream skate shoes companies. They typically involve the younger demographic and appeal to kids. The shoes are sometime plaid or another pattern. They generally have the skate’s logo prominently displayed on the side of the shoe. Some skaters enjoy laces, but the majority do not use their laces, preferring the freestyle feel of the shoe that is not hampered down.
